Following the closure of a mid-sized gold mine in Ghana, our firm was contracted to execute a full-scale environmental rehabilitation project. We conducted a site assessment, created a closure plan, and implemented land recontouring, soil treatment, and reforestation programs.
Our approach involved collaboration with local communities to determine suitable post-mining land uses, such as agroforestry and livestock grazing.
After two years, over 75% of the area was re-vegetated, water runoff was stabilized, and the site passed final environmental audits. The success of this project stands as a model for sustainable mine closure in West Africa.
